During the entire month of May, HSCC brings together our County’s housing partners to host a variety of virtual and in-person events, workshops, webinars, and creative community engagement opportunities to activate and engage our community of housing advocates and the general public around our community’s housing challenges and solutions.

City of SC Groundbreakings
Downtown Santa Cruz “Two for One” groundbreaking.
Join city officials, local affordable housing builders and the downtown community for the celebration of the start of construction of 150 affordable apartments for lower income residents in two separate projects: Pacific Station South and 525 Cedar Street. Please join us for very short appreciations at one site, and a two block walk to the other site for refreshments and celebration.

The Plan For More Affordable Housing: Influencing the Housing Element Process
Right now, the four cities and county of Santa Cruz are working on the most important affordable housing policy that our local governments will produce in a generation: the 6th Cycle Housing Element. How can we influence the process so Housing Elements address the injustices of housing policies and decisions, result in affordable housing in high-resource neighborhoods, avoid displacement in lower-income neighborhoods, increase overall supply and provide the variety of needed housing types for all income levels?

Housing Element 101: An Affordable Housing Event for Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley Communities
The event will include information about the upcoming Housing Element (HE) cycle and what the new RHNA numbers will mean for our communities. Representatives from Santa Cruz County Planning and the City of Scotts Valley will discuss local efforts to address the affordable housing crisis and possible solutions to increase the affordable housing supply will be discussed. Attendees will learn what they can do to get involved to help meet future affordable housing HE goals.

We Belong-Pertenecemos: Immigrant Justice Research, Resource Fair and Film Screening
We Belong-Pertenecemos, a collaboration for community engaged research and immigrant justice, is excited to announce a community event that is meant to showcase a combination of research and highlight community partners’ work. The event is designed to help share research findings with partners and the broader community and will feature representatives from approximately 20 community organizations that provide services to community members of Watsonville on social issues such as housing, jobs, public spaces, health and Youth as well as bring community resources.
This event is free to the public.

Hosted by Housing Santa Cruz County (HSCC), Please join us for “Housing for a Healthy Watsonville” forum, featuring Councilmember Francisco Estrada, County Administrative Officer Carlos Palacios, County Health Services Director Monica Morales, Watsonville Community Development Director Suzi Merriam and other special guests.
This event will take a look at needs, challenges and opportunities to create affordable homes for the residents of the Watsonville area. Free of charge, all are welcome to participate, but pre-registration is requested as capacity is limited. Please register using this form.
